Forrest Co. kidnapper dies from self-inflicted gun shot after SWAT standoff
GRENADA, MS. - A Forrest county man accused of kidnapping his wife in Forrest county shot himself after a three day manhunt.
Twelve miles of Interstate 55 in Grenada was temporarily shut down after a standoff between a SWAT team and Christopher Paul Dulas, 38, Sunday.
According to Forrest County investigator Nick Calico Dulas kidnapped his estranged wife last Thursday. Originally deputies believed the married couple were both missing until further information proved otherwise.
Dulas was a member of the United States Army and assigned to Camp Shelby. In a previous statement Calico said, "It is confirmed from Camp Shelby CID that a tan Humvee was taken from the post. Christopher Paul Dulas should be considered armed and dangerous."
Authorities said the couple was traveling in a 2018 Cherokee Grey Wolf 27 foot travel trailer with a toy hauler compartment on the back.
"A fast acting anonymous tipster called Crime Stoppers when they saw the travel trailer belonging to Christopher and Angelica Dulas of Forrest County" says Diane James Coordinator for Metro Crime Stoppers.
The caller spotted the couple in a trailer park in Grenada on Sunday. Forrest County Investigator Nick Calico immediately contacted law enforcement in Grenada.
Authorities later found the couple at the RV park where deputies rescued Angela Dulas, 32.
Dulas fled the scene and deputies fired their weapons towards him. Authorities say Dulas lost control of his vehicle which led to the standoff. The investigation is ongoing according to officials.
