Local teen to represent Team USA in archery

September 13, 2017

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Gabe Crenshaw, 17, has dedicated his life to archery over the last couple of years.

His hard work is now starting to pay off, as he will represent Team USA in the World Archery 3-D Championships next week in France.

"I'm really excited. I'm really grateful for the opportunity to go and shoot and represent the country," said Crenshaw.

Crenshaw practices every day for 3.5 hours to get better at his craft.

He has competed in about 20 competitions over the last year. He recently placed in the U.S. Team Trials in June, which qualified him to compete in France.

"Part of the reason I'm passionate about it is because I like the challenge of it. It's a one-person sport. And, so, no one else is at fault but you. I'm a competitor, so I like to compete and that kind of drives me to prove myself," said Crenshaw.

Crenshaw is hoping to not only learn from this incredible experience, but to also win the world championships, and bring that Gold medal back to Hattiesburg.

"It's something that I've dreamt of, just dreaming of having the opportunity to do that. It's something that would just blow me away I guess," said Crenshaw.

The World Archery 3-D Championships will begin on Tuesday.

Crenshaw said his ultimate goal is to have his own archery shop and help spread archery competitions in Mississippi.

He also would like to thank all those who have supported him through this journey.
