LAUREL, Miss. - Folks who are interested in becoming police officers have the chance to work for the Laurel Police Department (LPD).
The department is having its entry level testing in a few weeks, which is designed for people who are not police officers or people who have never been to a police academy.
Laurel Police are encouraging those interested to sign up.
Laurel Police Officer, Cpt. Tommy Cox said, "If you ever thought about becoming a police officer or becoming a part of this process, this is the time to do it. This test doesn't come along very often for us. Every couple of years. We haven't exhausted our last couple of lists. It's just expired. And every time we give the test, I talk to some people, several people months after the fact 'Ah I wish I would've taken that test.' And they don't. You have to jump on it while you can. We want as many people: male or female. We'd love to get some people that are fluent in Spanish."
Folks who are interested have to be at least 21-years-old.
The deadline to sign up is October 13 at 4:30 p.m. at the human resources department in city hall.
The written entry test will be October 21 at LPD’s pistol range.
