HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Hattiesburg Mayor, Toby Barker, swore in a rehire lateral transfer for the Hattiesburg Fire Department Monday at City Hall.
Fire Chief, Paul Presley shared that it's always good to rehire a former firemen -- like lateral transfer Brent Flat -- who can bring versatility and experience to the department.
"Our fire department has been here since 1904. It started with a couple horses and a carriage and seven firemen who worked 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Since then our department has a long story legacy of being the envy of the region of the state in terms of our level of training, in terms of professionalism and in terms of performance.” Mayor Barker shared during the ceremony in City Hall.
Flat brings the fire department employee total to 98 however, Chief Presley shared that he will continue to actively recruit more employees for the 2018 fire academy.
