HPD says be on look out for counterfeit money this holiday season

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Hattiesburg Police Depart are warning shoppers and retail employees about counterfeit money this holiday season.

HPD Spokeswoman, LaTosha Meyers, said look for the security strip of color and other indicators to determine whether the money is real or not.

“Retailers and consumers can decipher what’s counterfeit money or documents. Slow down take your time, examine your money, examine your documents. Don’t be in a hurry to make a purchase, don’t be in a hurry to get your change and leave. Look at it, examine it. If you’re going to be a retailer and you’re going to be accepting money you should invest in a counterfeit pen. It’s really inexpensive to strike the money or the document and make sure it is real," said Meyers.

With Black Friday Shopping around the corner, Meyers said be careful and always pay attention to your surroundings.
