City prepares to apply for MDOT grant for future road project
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Hattiesburg City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to authorize an application process to MDOT's Transportation Alternatives Program, commonly known as TAP.
Hattiesburg City Engineers would like to construct a roundabout at the intersection of Hardy and Green Streets to create an easier driving path.
"It's a really awkward intersection. You have several roads coming there at different angles. The city has recently purchased the adjacent property next to it, to allow for a properly size roundabout. You're also eliminating two red lights by doing this. It seems like it would be a really good location in order to facilitate this," said City Engineer, Lamar Rutland.
The city has plans to submit all documentation including specifications and cost estimations by December of 2018.
