6.7 Million People Expected to Celebrate National School Choice Week 2018

Washington, District of Columbia - The number of Americans celebrating National School Choice Week (Jan. 21 – 27, 2018) will hit an all-time high: nearly 7 million people. This includes the student bodies at more than 20,000 schools, more than 5,600 homeschooling groups, and millions of parents and community leaders.

This will be the eighth National School Choice Week, which continues to see exponential growth year over year. The Week began in 2011 with 150 events, and last year, 21,392 events took place during the week. Each event is independently-planned and all are centered around the goal of providing a positive spotlight to all kinds of school choice parents have or want to be able to have in their local area.

National School Choice Week celebrates and includes events and activities planned by every type of educational environment, including traditional public schools, public charter schools, public magnet schools, private schools, online learning, and homeschooling.

Events at schools include open houses to parent appreciation breakfasts, pep rallies, art shows, information nights, and outdoor adventures. More than 1,000 organizations, including 913 chambers of commerce, are planning policy roundtables, student award ceremonies, and school tours. In addition, large rallies are being planned by coalitions in 50 major cities.
