New Roundabout Coming to Laurel

HATTIESBURG, MISS. - The City of Laurel could see some construction soon in the downtown area to help the flow of traffic.  Earlier this week, Laurel’s Mayor Johnny McGee spoke about his plans to add a new roundabout in the downtown area.

“Down here at the corner of Central Avenue and Fifth Avenue there is a huge flagpole right now. We're going to take the flagpole down and turn it into a roundabout,” McGee said.  “We're going to have a stage there where they can have musicals and other things of that nature. It'll be a true roundabout. The traffic will flow a lot better, and we're going out for bids tonight on that... and it should be back in a month or so, and after that, we'll be ready to start constructing the roundabout.”

This will be the third roundabout added to Central Avenue.
