Grace Christian Elementary School Students are "Getting Ready to Run"

HATTIESBURG, MISS. - Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Mississippi partnered with Grace Christian Elementary School students on March 26 at Grace Christian Elementary School in Hattiesburg to kick-off its Get Ready to Run School Program.

The Get Ready to Run School program will teach students in 23 schools across the Pine Belt about the importance of exercise, proper nutrition, and general healthy habits.

“We know that the healthier kids are, the better they perform in the classroom,” Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Mississippi School Coordinator Eugenia King said. “So, we want to encourage them to just move and be physically active.”

The program will culminate at the Get Ready to Run Kids’ One-Mile Fun Run participated by students from different schools across the Pine Belt.

“The Get Ready to Run Fun Run is scheduled for Saturday, April the 28th on the campus of the University of Southern Mississippi,” King said. “We have over 400 kids registered for the race.”

Students that compete in the run receive a medal and a free t-shirt. The top three schools with the highest number of participants in the Fun Run will be awarded up to $2,000.
