Zoo to Host Sloth-A-Thon, Beer & Donut Race
This is a press release from Hattiesburg Zoo.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - If a 5k is too boring for you and a marathon is too much work, the Hattiesburg Zoo has planned a race that even Homer Simpson will be equipped for. Finding the motivation to compete in a race is not always easy, so the zoo along with its sponsors, Midtown Donut and Southern Prohibition will host the inaugural Sloth-A-Thon event to give participants a little boost. The "race" is about a half a mile or so, and will include SoPro beer hydration stations and carbloading rest stops throughout the course. This will give competitors a chance to stuff their stomachs with delicious Midtown Donut treats. Still craving more? The race is not all just fun and games. Proceeds from Sloth-A-Thon will be used to support the zoo's highly anticipated future giraffe exhibit. “Hattiesburg is an athletic city. Yet for some of us, a 5K is just too much for starters. What better way to ease into a healthier lifestyle than hustling from donuts to beer in one lap around the Zoo,” stated Rick Taylor, Executive Director for the Hattiesburg Convention Commission. Special prizes will be given for the best and most creative costumes or race wear, as well as for team uniforms or presentations. VIPs will have the opportunity to take sloth-selfies with our sloth Chewy and much more! Tickets are limited, so procrastination is not recommended. “Each year, we like to add additional events during the fall season and we're excited to be working with SoPro Brewery and Midtown Donuts for this unique event happening here in the Hub City” Demetric Kelly, Guest Services and Retail Manager for Hattiesburg Zoo, said. The big race is set for October 13th, but the Hattiesburg Zoo and its sponsors encourage participants to start preparing by following a strict training regimen that can be found on Facebook.
