Suspicious Fire at Timberton Softball Complex
HATTIESBURG, MISS. - The Hattiesburg Fire Department plan to take a close look at what they call a "mysterious fire," after the Timberton Softball Complex caught on fire twice Thursday night. Friday morning, the Hattiesburg Fire Department held a press conference to address what exactly happened at this mysterious fire. “We got a call to a structure fire on William Carey Parkway at the Timberton Softball Complex,” assistant chief for the Hattiesburg Fire Department, Danny Wade said.
The department received the call around 7 p.m. and one William Carey student standing described what he saw from across the street.
“I looked up, and the entire building was in flames,” William Carey student, Edward Malone said. “I was just shook.” Engulfed in flames the Hattiesburg Fire Department quickly put out the fire around 8 p.m., but what happened next still remains a mystery. “I was like, I need to get out of here,” Malone stated. “So, I go to drive off campus to get some air, and I’m passing by and I see this orange light coming from inside flickering. I was like this building is about to catch on fire after again.” Malone’s call log in his phone shows that he notified 911 operators about what he saw at 10:22 p.m., and he would later discover his predictions were correct. “By the time I got back… The entire building was aflame again,” Malone said. “It looked just like before, and it was just insane.” Now, the Hattiesburg Fire Department will take a closer look at how a building without power catches on fire twice. “It's suspicious in nature, but everything is really under investigation right now,” assistant chief, Wade said. Anyone with any information about these two incidents is asked to call Metro Crime Stoppers at 601-582-STOP or the Hattiesburg Fire Department 601-582-3311.
