Members of Arnold Line Water Association Start a Petition

The following press release comes from the Public Service Commission's Office

HATTIESBURG, MISS. — At a meeting on October 25, Public Service Commissioner Sam Britton held a public hearing for the purpose of investigating the continued stream of complaints against Arnold Line Water Association.

During the meeting members of Arnold Line presented a petition to the Board of Arnold Line calling for a vote to remove the current Board. It was then ordered by Britton that Arnold Line work with the Mississippi Rural Water Association to ensure that the special meeting to change the Board of Directors was scheduled and lawfully held in accordance with state law.

At the latest Arnold Line Board meeting, the Board determined the current petition presented by its members to be invalid, claiming certain requirements of the Mississippi Non-profit Act were not met.

Despite this latest action members remain committed in wanting change in management at Arnold Line, and the Public Service Commission looks forward to assisting members to ensure the new petition satisfies all state law requirements.

To begin the efforts of the new petition there will be an opportunity to sign on and participate this Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Jackie Dole Sherrill Community Center located at 220 W Front Street in Hattiesburg.

There will be a table set up in the Meeting Room with a copy of the petition along with names, addresses, and account numbers for all members to ensure that each signature is valid and will count toward the five percent requirement.

If members are unable to stop by this Tuesday, a copy of the petition will also be available to sign at the Public Service Commission’s Hattiesburg office located at 17 JM Tatum Industrial Drive in Hattiesburg.

The Commission’s initial investigation began in October of 2016 and was driven in large part by an Association policy requiring bills or account numbers in order to make payment. This practice is prohibited by state law. Arnold Line had agreed to no longer enforce this requirement, however the Commission is still receiving complaints concerning this issue among other issues.
