River Oaks Energy President, Duane Lock speaks at USM series


HATTIESBURG, Miss. - University of Southern Mississippi’s School of Business ‘Inspired Leaders Series’ featured alumnus Duane Lock Tuesday in Scianna Hall.

Lock is an entrepreneur, investor and 2015 School of Business Alumnus of the Year recipient. Tuesday he spoke to current students on what it takes to be successful after graduation.

“There are very various ways that you can become successful in life. You can do that through Corporate America or you can do that through being an entrepreneur," Lock said. He explained how students can research and find different opportunities in the job market to develop soft skills.

"The world is wide open for you as a student as you wonder into the world...just take advantage of the opportunity when it shows up,” his words inspired many students, faculty and staff. According to USM, Lock earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Southern Miss in 1983, and has since earned an MBA from Rockhurst University in Kansas City.

He is the president of River Oaks Energy, he oversees a company that offers energy consulting and risk management expertise to businesses in deregulated states across the country. He founded the company in 2004 and built it into a multi-million dollar enterprise.
