January 10, 2020

(The following is a press release from the Forrest County Sheriff's Dept.)

WEATHER UPDATE: The National Weather Service has Forrest County under an Enhanced Risk for severe weather on Saturday. Due to the primary threat of 70 mph straight line winds, a Wind Advisory will be in effect from 6 p.m. today until 8 p.m. on Saturday. There remains the possibility of tornadoes developing out ahead of the front. Flash flooding is not expected to be an issue at this time, however, with more rain in the forecast later this week it could become an issue.

The Forrest County 361 Safe Room located at 946 Sullivan Drive in Hattiesburg will be opened at 6 a.m. The shelter will be opened prior to 6 a.m. if the county goes under a Severe Thunderstorm or Tornado Watch immediately upon the watch being issued.

If an individual is disabled or unable to operate a vehicle, the Forrest County Sheriff’s Office will provide transportation to the shelter. To arrange transportation, call Dispatch at (601) 544-7804.
