Lifelong Hattiesburg resident announces candidacy for House District 102

HATTIESBURG, MS. - A lifelong Hattiesburg resident announced her candidacy for State Representative House District 102.

Missy Warren McGee, 51, is a University of Southern Mississippi (USM) alumni and graduated with her Master's Degree in Speech Communication.

McGee said, “I love Hattiesburg. It is the place I call home. It is the place that has educated, protected and nurtured me. It is the place where I have worshipped and grown."

“I think there is a renewed sense of enthusiasm in Hattiesburg right now" said McGee. She continued, "And our very best days are ahead of us."

McGee said if she is elected she will focus on being an advocate for USM, support the medical community, and local small businesses.

According to McGee she will fight to better Hattiesburg's public education, roads, water, and waste systems. She also hopes to find different avenues to retain young talent in Hub-City.

"Hattiesburg is where I chose to raise my kids in the hopes that they will have all the things that I had as a child: a quality education, a safe city in which to grow, opportunities for recreation and the arts, and a place to be with others who love and encourage them" she said.

McGee is married to Sean McGee, Senior Vice President for BancorpSouth. They have two sons, Patrick McGee, 19, and Jackson McGee, 16.

She worked at USM as an Instructor for Speech Communication, Warren Paving, Inc. as as Administrator and a Legislative Assistant for Senator Trent Lott in D.C.

"And I think we just need to have a continued strong representation in Jackson, to represent our district" she said.

Governor Phil Bryant set the special election date for September 12.
