Jones County man dies in motorcycle accident in Jones County

Jones Co, MS - A Jones County man was killed in a motorcycle accident in the Rustin community of Jones County Saturday night, March 7, after losing control of his motorcycle.

At approximately 7:30 p.m., emergency medical responders and rescue units from Rustin Volunteer Fire Department responded to the accident, which occurred on Poole Creek Road near Brushy Creek. Upon arrival they found the driver of a Harley Davidson Road King lying in the middle of the road, and his motorcycle on the side of the road several feet away.

Shannon (Shane) Byrd, 56, was pronounced dead at the scene by Jones County Deputy Coroner Ernest Hollingsworth.

According to officials on scene, Byrd apparently lost control of the motorcycle after rounding a sharp curve, and was thrown from his motorcycle onto the pavement.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation by Jones County Sheriff’s Department.

Also responding to the accident were rescue units from M&M and Powers VFDs to provide traffic control, Jones County Fire Coordinator Dan McKenna, and Jones County Emergency Medical Responder Coordinator Lee Garick.
