USM AD releases statement on UT's firing of Tyndall

Hattiesburg, MS - As many of you may be aware, this morning, the University of Tennessee terminated the employment of their head men’s basketball coach Donnie Tyndall. While we do not have any comment related to the specific action taken by Tennessee, I want you to know that we are continuing to work collaboratively with the NCAA to review the serious issues raised regarding the men’s basketball program while under the leadership of Coach Tyndall.
Our joint investigation is ongoing and the process will not be complete for some time. In order to maintain the integrity of the investigation, and pursuant to NCAA policy, we cannot comment further regarding details of the case at this time.
There is no question that this ongoing matter presents challenges for our program, in particular, due to the uncertainty related to the timing of its resolution. However, please know that there will be a finish line, and we will emerge from this a stronger program.
Thank you again for your generous support of Southern Miss.
To The Top, Together,
Bill
