MDOT Response to ARTBA Bridge Analysis

Jackson, MS — “This analysis shows that the time for action is now, not years down the deteriorated road,” said Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) Executive Director Melinda McGrath. “The need for federal funding to repair roads and bridges has never been greater. Over 2,200 bridges in Mississippi fall into the structurally deficient category. Continued delays in federal funding will eventually create safety hazards for the traveling public and devastate economic growth.”
“MDOT continues to work with the Mississippi Legislature and Congress to meet transportation funding challenges,” McGrath said. “The Mississippi House and Senate took action in the 2015 Legislative Session on House Bill 1630, a bond bill which includes $162 million to address structurally deficient bridges across the state.”
