Two killed in separate collisions in Jones Co, Sunday

Jones Co, MS - On Sunday, June 7, two separate collisions in Jones County, which occurred within minutes of each other, in two different locations of the county resulted in the death of two people, and five other people injured.

At 12:06 p.m., emergency medical responders and rescue units from South Jones and Southwest Jones Volunteer Fire Departments, along with the City of Ellisville Fire Department, were dispatched to Highway 590 near the I-59 intersection to a two-vehicle head-on collision with entrapment. Upon arrival rescue personnel found two patients in a Chevrolet Malibu entrapped, and one patient in a Ford Ranger.

According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the driver of the Chevrolet Malibu, 58-year old Edward Wade of Laurel, was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, 62-year old Willie Wade, also of Laurel, was transported by Ochsner’s Rescue 7 to Forest General Hospital in Hattiesburg in critical condition.

The male driver of the Ford Ranger was transported to South Central Regional Medical Center by EMServ Ambulance Service with what was believed to be moderate and non-life threatening injuries.

Three minutes later, at 12:09 p.m., emergency medical responders and rescue units from Calhoun and Soso Volunteer Fire Departments were dispatched to Highway 28 at Lebanon Road to a two-vehicle accident, also with entrapment.

According to officials on scene a mid-size passenger car was apparently crossing from Lonesome Pines Road to Lebanon Road on Highway 28 in front of an oncoming GMC pickup truck when the collision occurred. The GMC truck collided with the car in the passenger door sending both vehicles off the road and against a utility pole, entrapping the both occupants of the car.

Baptist Life Flight Air Ambulance Service was requested and arrived on scene to air-lift the older female passenger of the car, but she was not stable enough to be flown, and was transported to SCRMC by EMServ Ambualnce Service with the two Flight Nurses, a Calhoun VFD EMR, and EMServ paramedics on board.

Unfortunately the female passenger, whose name has been withheld until notification of relatives, was pronounced dead on arrival at the SCRMC Emergency Room.

Two female passengers of the GMC pickup were transported to SCRMC by a second EMServ ambulance with what was believed to be non-life threatening injuries. The male driver of the truck refused transportation to the hospital.

Both accidents remain under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

Also responding to the accident on Highway 590 were Jones County Fire Coordinator Dan McKenna, Jones County Sheriff’s Department, and ASAP Ambulance Service.

Also responding to the accident on Highway 28 were Jones County Sheriff’s Department, and Investigator Wayne Black with the Jones County District Attorney’s Office.
