Habitat holds a dedication celebration to mark the end of construction and bless the home just before the family purchases their home from Habitat for Humanity. This house will be home to The Washam Family. This beautiful house is a result of the hard work of volunteers from all over the United States and beyond. This house was built in partnership with United Way of Southeast Mississippi, Valspar Paint, Economy Supply, Whirlpool Appliances, Lowe’s, Dow, Boral Brick, Armor Insulation, Camp Shelby Office of Family Services, and several other community partners. In addition to local volunteers including students from the University of Southern Mississippi, Petal High School, William Carey University, Jones County Junior College, and Lucky Day Scholars; Collegiate Challenge groups from the University of Wisconsin – Madison, the University of Illinois – Urbana, Concordia College, Georgetown University, the University of Texas – Austin, the University of Maryland, Missouri University of Science and technology, University of Wisconsin – Parkside, and Walter Payton College Prep.
Ms. Geneal Washam is a single mother of 3 children and was struggling to make ends meet with the demand of high rent not leaving her money for survival necessities. Geneal is employed with the Ellisville State School where she works in the reimbursement office. She is well loved by her family, friends, church and coworkers and very excited to be getting a new home. Geneal is mostly excited that she now has a place to call her own and where her three children can enjoy their life and maybe get that puppy they have been wanting for a while.
Please join us on Saturday, June 27th beginning at 10 am, to celebrate this accomplishment with the Washam family at 207 North 23rd Avenue, Hattiesburg.
