A mobile home fire in East Jones County Wednesday morning has left a mother and her five children ho


Jones Co, MS - At 10:08 a.m., fire units from Sandersville, Powers, Rustin, and Glade Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the fire. Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke and flames coming from the north end of the mobile home. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the one end of the mobile home.

No one was injured during the fire; however, the mobile home received extensive fire, smoke, and water damage.

The owner, Quanna Cooley, lived in the mobile home with her five children, age 20, 13, 9, 7, and 4.

According to Jones County Sheriff’s Department Fire Investigator Sgt. Scott Gable the fire appears to have been caused by a child playing with matches.

Also, responding to the fire were Jones County Fire Coordinator Dan McKenna, Dixie Electric Power Association, Jones County Sheriff’s Department, Fishers of Men in Action from Magnolia Baptist Church who provided hydration for the firefighters, EMServ Ambulance Service, and the American Red Cross.
