Jones County, MS — The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) has begun a roadway improvement project along two miles of Highway 537 in Jones County.
This project consists of resurfacing the roadway from Northview Drive to Temple Road. Additional banking will be added to the curved sections of the roadway to enhance safety.
A month after resurfacing, sections of the roadway will be treated with a high friction stone embedded in an epoxy binder, also referred to as high friction surface treatment. This treatment will enhance roadway safety by increasing vehicle traction. The project also includes the removal of the old railroad crossing.
“As work progresses, we’d like to advise motorists to drive slow and to be alert for our roadside workers throughout this stretch of roadway,” said Transportation Commissioner Tom King.
Motorists can expect traffic delays during the course of construction. Work on the project is scheduled for completion by November 2015. The project was awarded to Dunn Roadbuilders for $977,000.
