USM's CCE Big Donation

Hattiesburg - The University of Southern Mississippi received a donation for their Center for Community and Civic Engagement.

CCE Director, Christy Arrazattee said, "We're here to honor Dr. Conville and his wife Mo, who have made a $100,000 donation to the Center for Community and Civic Engagement."

This fund is assembled for the CCE to continue to coordinate service projects in the community and support service learning activities.

Arrazattee said, "It’s going to be very flexible in what we can use the money for each year. I think it's going to go anywhere from providing tools for a service project to perhaps a training experience for faculty who we're trying to teach how to work with the community, work with non-profits, and to act positive social change."

I spoke with Mr. Conville and he told me why he donated this grant.

Professor Emeritus, Dick Conville said, "The point of the gift is to allow her to create programming, bring people on campus and such...that will enhance their ability to both teach and learn through community service."

With this $100,000 donation, USM plans to keep improving its CCE, impacting student lives, and making a difference in the community.
