USM VS. UTEP

Hattiesburg - Southern Miss took on UTEP on Halloween for an epic divisional match-up. The Miners are looking for their second conference win and the Golden Eagles are looking to secure their sixth win overall and become bowl eligible.

USM Head Coach, Todd Monken said, "I think our team continues to practice hard, continues to play hard, continues to believe in each other. We have talent, we have good coaches."

Southern Miss's hard work and talent overshadowed UTEP, as the Golden Eagles seemed to have their way both, offensively and defensively.

USM Quarterback, Nick Mullens said, "It's nice just to be able to get out there and trust your playmakers really. They've been pretty beneficial for us. It's just a matter of focusing on every play and really trying to achieve what you're trying to achieve."

Unfortunately, the weather stood in the way and the game was delayed due to a tornado warning and some lightning strikes. But, the bad weather didn't stop the Golden Eagles' mentality.

USM Wide Receiver, D.J. Thompson said, "The hardest part was getting everybody to get back right, lock back in and kind of loosen up and go back out there and finish the game out. We didn't want anybody to be like we didn't finish the game, and no telling what would happen. We wanted to finish the game until the clock hit zero."

And Southern Miss finished the game in style! Both, Richard and Smith ran for over 100 yards each and Mullens threw for nearly 300 yards and clocked-in four touchdowns.

On Halloween, Southern Miss beat UTEP 34-13. And despite the severe weather and the long weather delay, Southern Miss rose to the top and are now bowl eligible with six wins.
