JCJC's Maroon Typhoon Thanksgiving Travel Plans
Jones County, Miss. - JCJC's Maroon Typhoon will be traveling to Chicago for Thanksgiving, but they're not going to the Windy City just for turkey.
Dr. Susan Smith, JCJC Chair of Fine Arts Division said, "We were selected for the McDonald’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in Chicago, Illinois, and we are very excited that we are going the Windy City."
The Maroon Typhoon hasn't performed nationally since 2007 because of funding problems, but the kids are looking forward to maximizing this opportunity.
Smith said, "They've improved so much over the year. They started in band camp this summer working on it, knowing that they were going to go to the parade. Even though they've always been exceptional, they've become really hard workers with marching this year and they have also worked on marching from the band hall all the way to the field this year. So we feel like they're well prepared for the long parade."
If you would like to watch the band perform in Chicago, you can tune in to WGN. Also, if you’re curious to know which songs Maroon Typhoon will be playing, Dr. Smith will tell you.
Smith said, "I believe ‘Jingle Bell Jam,’ but you're going to hear some adeste fidelis, as one of the things as they go by, and then just marching in the parade. In general, you're going to hear some drum cadences, and some other Christmas tunes."
