The neurology department at the Hattiesburg Clinic changes their name

HATTIESBURG, Miss - It is Alzheimer's Awareness month and the Neurological Research Center at the Hattiesburg Clinic changes their name to a more appropriate fit that describes their work, the Memory Center.

Dr. Ronald Schwartz, the Neurologist onsite says, "It didn't really make sense to call it a Neurological Center, it made more sense just to combine the clinical component and the research component and just combine it to call it a Memory Center."

The multiple members at the center made it a team decision to change their name.

Dr. Schwarts further says, "A lot of things we do is team oriented, the Memory Center has a multidisciplinary group of people that do clinical assessments, plus the studies..we meet and discuss how this is going to come across and how it is easier to get people to understand what we do."

The Memory Center provides patients in South Mississippi access to leading-edge clinical trials and care for those suffering from cognitive impairments.

"Just getting local access to a doctor who has understanding of the disease, access to medications, willing to work it out, it is important that the earlier you start, the better chance you have to starting a smoother course as people age" Dr. Schwartz says.

Currently there is no cure for Alzheimer's disease but Dr. Schwarz mentions there are ways to minimize the risks by changing your diet and exercising frequently.
