The U.S. Food and Inspection Service released a final rule yesterday on a new catfish and other ray-finned fish species that will start in March.

Supporters said this new inspection process will help ensure catfish that's sent from other countries undergoes the same safety regulations and checks as U.S. catfish.

However, opponents said the new inspection process is government waste designed to add a hurdle for imports.

Sen. John McCain and others said this was implemented to raise a new, higher hurdle from catfish imports from other nations, mainly Vietnam.
