Petal Panthers Send Off

Petal, Miss. - Today is Friday and it's just not any ordinary Friday...it's the day of the MHSAA State Championship...and students and Petal Panthers fans were lined up outside the high school to send off their players.

Panther fan, Linda Folsom said, "I'm from Grand Ridge, Florida. I came 5.5 hours to see my grandson play in the tournament and we're so excited."

The Panthers endured a rough start in the beginning of the season having a 3-4 record. But since then, it's safe to say they've turned things around.

Freshmen running back/cornerback, J’Lin Jones said, "Our season is really good. We're on a seven win streak and yeah, we're doing really good."

It’s been quite some time since Petal has been to a championship. I asked Jones how it would feel to win it all this year.

Jones said "it'll be an amazing feeling throughout our community and our school and football wise, it would be just a dream come true really."

And the Panthers are trying to make that dream become a reality.

Freshmen running back/linebacker, Semaj Silas said, "I expect to go up there and we do what we got to do and we win."

Hundreds of people were lined up outside excited to help send off their beloved Panthers to the 6A State Championship.

Petal plays Starkville at Ole Miss at 7 p.m.
