National String Project Consortium
Hattiesburg, Miss. - USM's School of Music is selected as an official location for the National String Project Consortium.
The project's goal is to increase the number of children playing stringed instruments and addresses the immense shortage of string teachers across the nation.
The school receives an initial $10,000 grant from the National Association of Music Merchandisers.
Students from Grades 4th through 12th will also be involved in the program.
Southern Miss's Youth Orchestra's fall concert is on Monday December 14, at 6:30 p.m. in the Mannoni Performing Arts Center.
