Southern Miss Upgrades Athletic Facilities

Hattiesburg, Miss. - Southern Miss is upgrading its athletic facilities.

The football team will get a new state of the art locker room with 115 new lockers. Southern Miss will also expand its strength and conditioning center. This facility will be for all USM athletes and will have new floors, equipment, and much more space for the athletes to work out in. USM is also getting is a nutrition center, located in the M-Club room.

Wide receiver, D.J. Thompson said, "Feels pretty good man. I feel like we deserve it. There's nothing wrong with what we have. It's not what we have is bad but, at the end of the day, it's all nice to get new stuff, bring in new recruits and let them be able to see all the nice things we got and it just feels good. I feel like we've been working our hardest and we kind of deserve it. No matter whether it's going to class or out there on the practice field, I still end up in that locker room sometime in the day and so that's where I spend most of my time and I feel that's where we do a lot of our team-building, team-bonding, getting to know one of another and growing as teammates and I think that's a positive thing for us to get this new locker room."

Work on the new locker room and strength and conditioning center will begin after the team takes off for their bowl game.

The strength and conditioning facility will be done by the end of February.

Construction of the nutrition center will start immediately after the strength and conditioning facility is finished.

The nutrition center and the locker room will be done sometime in the summer.
