Lumberton, Miss. - Lumberton's top finisher in the mayoral race said there will not be a runoff.

Alderman Kent Crider said it's because all three candidates ran as independents.

However, a spokeswoman for the Mississippi Secretary of State's Office, said Crider is wrong.

Spokeswoman Anna Moak said in an email municipal special elections go to a runoff two weeks later if nobody gets a majority. Which means, Jonathan Griffith and Crider will be in a runoff next Tuesday.

Crider received 146 votes and Griffith received 126 votes.
