Holiday thoughts for the Pinebelt Community Foundation

HATTIESBURG, Miss - The holiday season is a time for reflection to honor others, some do so by starting a designated fund to the Pinebelt Community Foundation.

Theresa Erickson Director of the Pinebelt Community Foundation says that people think of their organization especially during the holidays to honor an individual and to avoid end of the year taxes too.

"People understand that they can use us to set up a fund to in honor of somebody. We now manage over 170 funds and over 4 million in assets, the main thing we like to communicate is that we are really here for the donors" Erickson says.

Individuals also start funds to avoid an end of the year tax breaks.

"They go ahead and open a donor advised fund and they get the tax break now for the gift that they give us, but they can use that money or that fund anytime to use that fund to give to any non profit church or any school" Erickson says.

The Pinebelt Foundation has provided designated grants to non profit organization and has completed many community service projects.

Their main message is to connect others in the Pine Belt region.
