Spencer Street Shooting Turned Fatal

Hattiesburg, Miss. - Hattiesburg Police responded to a call Tuesday night about a shooting that occurred.

Richard DeShawn Barnes, 43, was shot multiple times at an abandon house on Spencer Street and was pronounced dead at Forrest General Hospital Tuesday evening.

Hattiesburg Police Officer, Lt. Jon Traxler said, "We did get a call from Forrest General Hospital of a victim who had arrived in a vehicle pickup truck that was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Officers responded and arrived on scene. There was a driver of the vehicle who they spoke with and advised that the incident occurred on the 900 block of Spencer Street. We don't know the relationship between them or the victim or what they were doing at that house. From what we understand, they were just asleep in the vehicle."

Officers found evidence at the scene of the crime, but have not found the suspect(s).

The investigation is ongoing.
