Stevens leads the way to help the Bobcats beat Copiah-Lincoln

Ellisville, Miss. - When Jones County Junior College needed a sure thing, they turned to Bruce Stevens.
And the 6-foot-8 freshman from Bay Springs delivered in clutch fashion.Stevens scored 29 points to spark the Bobcats to an 84-73 victory over Copiah-Lincoln Community College here Monday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.The win improves JCJC to 7-3 overall, 2-1 in the MACJC South Division.Co-Lin drops to 2-10 overall, 0-3 in division play.
The Bobcats led for almost the entire game.Andrew Riley’s steal and layup put the Bobcats up 8-1 with 16:48 left in the first half. Co-Lin’s Tony Williams made a layup to cut the lead to 17-14 with 9:43 left in the first half.The Bobcats took their longest lead of the first half when Stevens canned a 3-pointer from the top of the key extended to make it 36-26 with 5:00 remaining.But the Wolves closed the half on a 15-4 run and took their only lead of the night when Anfernee Parker hit a 15-footer at the buzzer to make it 41-40.
JCJC then opened the second half on an 11-2 run, taking a 51-43 lead with 16:14 left when Tristin Walley scored. A slam dunk by Stevens gave the Bobcats a 61-51 lead with 10:34 remaining. Darius Kennedy’s slam cut the lead to 61-55 at the 9:46 mark.
The Bobcats then extended the lead to 72-58 with 6:11 left when Stevens made two free throws. Riley’s basket with 4:09 to play gave JCJC its longest lead of the night at 78-63.Kennedy’s basket with 54.5 seconds remaining cut the lead to 79-71, but that was as close as Co-Lin would get.
After Stevens’ point total, Maurice Dunlap, Andre Johnson and Christian Robertson scored 10 points each. JCJC was 18-of-33 from the free throw line.Kennedy had 16 points for the Wolves, while Jonathan Dalton and Donte Watson had 14 each and Tony Williams added 13. Co-Lin was 12-of-23 from the foul line.
The Bobcats travel to Pearl River for an important division contest at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Co-Lin entertains East Central on Thursday.
