Sanderson Farms Championship gives out a record-break donation

Laurel, Miss. - Sanderson Farms is known for its chicken and the PGA Tour event it sponsors in Mississippi.

With that being said, the Sanderson Farms Championship presented a record-breaking donation.

Sanderson Farms Chairman & CEO, Joe Sanderson said, "As a result of the golf tournament this year in Jackson, we were able to make a donation to Friends of Children's Hospital of a $1.109 million."

Last year's donation was for the children's heart care center and this year's donation is to help out the neonatal intensive care unit.

Sanderson said "for the hospital itself, getting a million plus dollars a year for Batson Children's Hospital is very important. They need money and over a multi-year period, that really adds up for the hospital."

Sanderson Farms pledged to sponsor the PGA Tournament for an additional ten years and Sanderson himself is thrilled to continue giving back to the community.

Sanderson said "as a company, we feel like it's our responsibility to give back to the communities where we operate. In Mississippi, in Jackson, in Laurel, and every community we have operations."

Ever since Sanderson Farms became the tournament's title sponsor in 2013, more than $2.7 million has been donated to support Mississippi's only children's hospital. And with a ten-year extension, that only means Sanderson Farms will donate more money.
