An LPD Officer was assaulted

Laurel, Miss. - A Laurel man is accused of hitting a police officer Tuesday after an incident.

Police said officer Earl Reed pulled over Joseph E. Gilmore Jr., 24, in the 700 block of West 15th St.

Police said Gilmore was uncooperative and hit Reed in the head.

Reed suffered minor injuries and received treatment from a medic.

Gilmore faces misdemeanor charges for an open container and a felony assault to a police officer.
