The Lady Eagles snap their three game losing streak to North Texas

Hattiesburg, Miss. - The Lady Eagles hosted the Mean Green of North Texas after a three game road trip and were hoping to get back to their winning ways.

Guard, Keri Jewett-Giles said, "We know that we was coming off of three losses on the road, so we knew we had to bring it at home."

The Lady Eagles definitely brought it in the first half, especially with their guard play. Veiga, Jewett, and Dinkins combined for a total of 25 points out of the team's 33 points in the first half.

Head coach, Joye Lee-McNelis said, "She and Keri were a great one-two punch tonight. Keri again had several steals as well and had more assists than turnovers and really played extremely well together, and really fed off each other."

And like Coach McNelis said, the Lady Eagles played great defense, forcing 16 steals in the game.

Jewett-Giles said "they couldn't make the first pass on offense, so that just totally took them out of it."

Lee-McNelis said "I know I've talked a lot about defense, but I truly believed that's the key that surged our break and got us going to the offensive end. It gave us a lot of confidence."

And it hasn't been just guard play that dominated the game, but the post as well. Specifically, the play from freshman phenom, Caitlin Jenkins, who had another double-double.

Center, Caitlin Jenkins said, "When I came off the bench, I guess it was my job to come bring some more energy that was needed."

Southern Miss beat North Texas 57-38 and their next game is at home on Saturday against Rice.
