Veteran donates intoximeter to SPD

SEMINARY, Miss - A veteran donated a $550 intoximeter to the Seminary Police Department (SPD) when he found out they lacked the device.

Chief Michael Kelly of SPD says, "We were hoping to get one through grant funding, but we just found out that with our grant funding we apply to every year, this was one item that was not available for our grant, so we would have to pay for it with our funding."

One of SPD's goal is to protect the communiy from the repercussions of drinking and driving.

"This is a tool that we can use to keep the folks riding on our city streets out on the highway safe" Chief Kelly says.

This donation comes right before Super Bowl Sunday where 43% of all traffic fatalities occur says the National Highway Traffic Safety (NHTS).

"Call somebody to pick you up, call me, I will come pick you up, anything that can keep my family and the good people who are trying to make it safe on the highways, that's our end goal" Chief Kelly says.

On average SPD responds to around 6 to 8 DUI's a month and this intoximeter will benefit the entire Seminary community.
