Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church reopens

Petal, Miss. - Petal's Mount Vernon Missionary Baptist Church officially reopened for the first time in three years Sunday after the devastating tornado that destroyed it.

Rev. Carl Burkett, Mount Vernon Missionary Baptist Church pastor said, "I'm excited! I don't even have words for it. I'm excited, I'm happy and all I can say is praise the Lord hallelujah. We have had great response throughout this ordeal throughout our transition. We have had positive response from our neighboring churches. They have been so good to us. I have shedded some tears and thanking God for all he has done for us here at Mount Vernon Missionary Baptist Church and I'm not ashamed to cry."

Hundreds of people attended service Sunday’s for the church's reopening.
