Ellisville, Miss. - JCJC’s annual Black History Program is Thursday.
Vice president of student affairs, Dr. Samuel Jones, invited Forrest County justice court judge, Gay Polk-Payton to speak at the program and help spread knowledge that will help impact peoples' lives.
Jones said "the program is really designed to expose our students to events and speakers to come in and share their personal experience and hopefully our students can learn something from that. Most of the time when people think about Black history, they think about something one hundred years ago. But I think it’s important that we can look around and see history right before us. Not just Black history, but since Black History Month is something we have in February, we think it's important that we can bring some African-Americans in here, share their personal experience about life and hopefully something we all can learn from, and truly that's what getting an education is all about."
The program is at the JCJC Fine Arts Auditorium at 10:15 and it's free.
