Bobcats lose to Southwest

Summit, Miss. – Southwest Mississippi used a 13-4 run at the start of the second half and went on to defeat Jones County 94-87 here Thursday at the Southwest Basketball Center.
The Bobcats led 46-37 late in the first half and 48-44 at halftime.
But the Bears got off to the quick start in the second half, which propelled them to the win.
JCJC was within 70-69 with around nine minutes remaining, but Southwest quickly scored seven straight points and took a 77-69 lead with 7:34 left. The Bears would lead by as many as 10 points down the stretch.
Tristin Walley led the Bobcats, 14-6 overall and 9-4 in the MACJC South Division, with 24 points, while Maurice Dunlap added 23 and Christian Robertson had 11.
JCJC was 28-of-58 from the field (10-of-24 from 3-point range) for 48 percent. The Bobcats were 21-of-30 from the free throw line.
Walley led the Bobcats with eight rebounds.
Terrell Miller had 27 points for the Bears, while Emanuel Thompson added 26 and Lafayette Rutledge had 13.
The Bears were 32-of-58 from the field (11-of-20 from 3-point range) for 57 percent. The Bears were 19-of-25 from the foul line.
Southwest is now 13-8 overall and 8-5 in the division.
JCJC, Mississippi Gulf Coast and Pearl River are tied for first place in the division at 9-4, while Southwest and East Central are 8-5. The top four teams qualify for the MACJC Tournament, which will be held next week at Itawamba Community College in Fulton.
The Bobcats have clinched a spot in the tournament. Southwest heads to East Central on Thursday with the winner of that game qualifying for the state tournament.
The Bobcats entertain Hinds in the final regular season game of the year at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
The game will air on www.jcjc.tv. It will be “Sophomore Night” at A.B. Howard Gymnasium as the women and men’s sophomores will be recognized that evening.
In other South Division games on Thursday, Pearl River hosts Meridian and Copiah-Lincoln travels to Mississippi Gulf Coast.
