Severe storm damage in Montrose
MONTROSE, Miss - The Montrose community, six miles away from Bay Springs in Jasper County suffered severe damage from yesterday's severe storm.
Resident Michael James says, "I got a call saying that it was coming right towards Montrose."
Jasper County Emergency Management Mike Lucas was on the scene investigating the damage. He said, "Ten structures have been damaged, two mobile homes destroyed."
Timber is Montrose main economic driver and trees were on the streets everywhere blocking roads.
Two trees collapsed on the roofs of churches. Pastor of the United Methodist Church, Joe Garvin says, "We're thankful no one got hurt, just a lot of timber, you can see we are just rich in timber."
Mayor Carl Matthews assisted in rebuilding the community and surveying the damage.
"Our community is doing well as far as what happened yesterday it could have been a lot worse. Nobody was hurt so we are very fortunate."
The National Weather Service is still investigating the damage.
