JCJC destroys Baton Rouge

Ellisville, Miss. - Jones County Junior College put up a couple of football-like scores on the baseball diamond Wednesday evening at Community Bank Park.

The Bobcats blasted Baton Rouge Community College (Louisiana) 27-5 and 14-0 in a doubleheader. The first game was scheduled for nine innings and was called in the seventh. The second game was scheduled for seven innings and was called in the fifth.

The Bobcats are now 6-0 and have outscored their opponents by a whopping 89-17 margin.JCJC returns home for a 2 p.m. doubleheader vs. Mineral Area College (Missouri) on Saturday.

The games will air on www.jcjc.tv.Baton Rouge, 6-10, travels to the East Central campus in Decatur on Saturday to face Wallace State-Hanceville (Alabama) and Faulkner State (Alabama) in two neutral site games.Bobcats 27, Bears 5(7 innings)The Bobcats pounded out 25 hits with Southern Miss signee Mason Irby setting the tone quickly.After Clint Sasser walked and Shelton Wallace singled in the bottom of the first inning, Irby hit a three-run home run just inside the left field foul pole.

The Bobcats then sent 13 batters to the plate and scored eight runs in the second inning to go up 11-0. Dalton Skelton started the inning with a home run over the right field wall.

Jonathan Parker had a run-scoring double, while Shelton Wallace and Fred Franklin had run-scoring singles in the inning.JCJC then sent 15 batters to the plate and scored nine runs in the fourth inning to take a 20-0 lead.

Parker had a two-run single in the inning with Franklin, Sasser, Wallace, Irby and John Alan Wall adding RBI singles.After McKay Mouton hit a solo home run for the Bears in the fifth, the Bobcats scored seven runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 27-1 lead.

Irby led off the inning with his second home run of the game and Erick Hoard would hit a two-run single. Wall would have a two-run double and Mason Strickland and Tanner Huddleston had RBI singles.The Bears would score four in the sixth.

Will Brand, 2-0, posted the win. He went four innings, allowed no runs, four hits, walked none and struck out three. Zach Taylor went the final three innings, allowed five runs (two earned), four hits, walked none and struck out one.Irby homered twice, singled and drove in six runs. Hoard doubled, singled three times and had two RBIs. Parker doubled, singled twice and drove in three runs. Franklin singled three times and drove in three runs, while Skelton homered and singled twice. Wallace singled twice and had two RBIs, while Tristan Labove had two doubles. Sasser, Mason Strickland, Wall, Chris Richardson and Josh Keel had singles. Sasser also walked three times, was hit by a pitch and reached base in all five of his plate appearances.

Jake Murry – the first of four BRCC pitchers – started and took the loss. Nick Ourso doubled and singled for the Bears, while Mouton homered. Devin Bailey tripled, while John Mauldin, Layton Laird, Joseph Domingue and Blake Buller adding singles.Bobcats 14, Bears 0(5 innings)Starting pitcher Ben Stiglets shut the Bears down in the nightcap.

Stiglets went the first four innings, allowed no runs, one hit walked one and struck out four as he improved to 2-0. Dylan Dover tossed the final inning, striking out one and walking one.Once again, the Bobcats got off to a quick start by taking a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Sasser led off with a walk and scored on Irby’s double to right. Huddleston and Hoard then draw walks to load the bases. An error allowed Irby and Huddleston to score.

JCJC then sent 11 batters to the plate, scored seven runs and took a 10-0 lead in the second. Hoard had a two-run single, while Landon Nettles and Franklin had RBI doubles. JCJC ended the scoring in the fourth. Hoard had an RBI single and Nettles drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the inning.

Irby doubled and singled twice, while Hoard singled twice and drove in three runs. Nettles doubled and drove in a pair of runs and Franklin had a double. Wallace and Skelton added singles.Mauldin singled for BRCC’s only hit.Zachary Ragsdale – the first of five Bear pitches – pitched one inning, allowed three runs (one earned) and took the loss. He allowed one hit and walked three.
