Potential sinkhole at Ellisville courthouse
ELLISVILLE, Miss - A routine maintenance check of the Ellisville courthouse led resident, Johnny Pool to a 2 feet sinkhole at the back side of the historic courthouse.
Pool mentions he almost fell into the hole when the edges gave out on him. He said there was hay on top of the hole.
"I had walking by here and I had backed up looking at these bars explaining to the guys about the bars when I caved in" says Pool.
It is believed the sinkhole appeared due to the moist foundation of the building. When it rains the water seeps into the ground instead of the broken drainage pipes.
Residents in Ellisville are hoping to preserve the deteriorating courthouse.
