Jones county youth represents Mississippi with prestigious award

JONES COUNTY, Miss - Za’Marion Barnett, 10, of Jones County is the only Mississippian to receive the National Youth Activist award by Omni Hotel and Resorts.

Only 100 students are chosen each year and his mother, Markita Barnett says she is very proud.

“I wrote up an essay and sent it up to Omni Hotel and he was picked by the businessmen and distinguished leaders.”

His pastor, Herbert Walker, says, “He is very active in the church, in Sunday school, in worship service, anything he is asked to do, he is more than ready to do it.”

These awards are created to honor the nation’s most exceptional youth who are making exemplar achievement, significant community contributions, and extraordinary milestones that make the world a better place.

Barnett’s will represent Mississippi in Nashville, TN on March 11.
