Keg and barrel hosts fundraiser for Hattiesburg H.S. debate team

HATTIESBURG, Miss - Keg and Barrel owner, John Neal, is supporting and hosting a fundraiser for the Hattiesburg High School (HHS) debate team on Thursday, March 10.

The family-friendly barbeque plate event will feature a live band and will generate funds to keep the nationally-ranked Tiger debaters on the road this semester to help with costs for participating in the National Championships.

Former debater and alumni, Michael Shemper mentions the funds are needed since district cuts are hindering them to further their experience and showcase their skills.

Shemper says, "It is critical not only for the well-being of the program as a whole, but for the long term kids that are involved. They have dedicated thousands of hours both in and out of school their whole lives. We want to continue the tradition. The difference is...now this program is doing the most with the least."

Miss Mississippi, Hannah Roberts, will attend to help preserve the debate and theatre traditions at HHS.
