LAUREL, Miss - The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) and Laurel celebrated the completion of two road and bridge projects.
MDOT awarded funding totaling $1.12 million toward a roadway & safety improvement project along Grandview Drive. Additionally, MDOT awarded funding totaling $300,000 toward two pedestrian bridges along with other improvements at Gardiner and Mason Parks.

Commissioner Tom King of MDOT says, "We got a new bridge down the road so it is a much safer place. It is a safe project that will benefit and help vehicle traffic and parents taking kids to school."
The project on Grandview Drive was needed after bus drivers were not able to see pedestrians pass due to the 90 degree sharp turn. The new road also allows more traffic as it provides three lanes.
80% of the project was federally funded and 20% from MDOT and Mayor Magee of Laurel says it was desperately needed.
"I feel great about it because it is a great partnership between Laurel and MDOT, it is tax dollars well spent. I appreciate MDOT and Commissioner Tom King to help us improve the city of Laurel" says Magee.
