Edwards fellowship receives grant from local bridge club
HATTIESBURG, Miss - The Hattiesburg Duplicate Bridge Unit 2014 and the American Contract Bridge League awarded a $3,000 grant to Edwards Street Fellowship Center (ESFC).
The grant is in memory of former club member and volunteer Betty Archer, who passed away in Dec. 2013.
Club member, David Powers says, "Betty had at least two passions, one was playing bridge, the other was Edwards Street Pantry. Her connections with Edwards Street Pantry, made us want to donate the money to Edwards Street."
As a retired dietitian, Archer enjoyed giving back to the community through her service to the ESFC food pantry.
Director of ESFC, Ann McCullen says, "We are so excited. We are putting it (grant) in the general budget so that it can be used wherever it is most needed."
McCullen mentions that Archer's husband continues to volunteer at the pantry. Her husband and son built a worship center at the backside of the center in honor of her contributions.
