Potential renovations for the old Hattiesburg American newspaper building

HATTIESBURG, Miss - The old Hattiesburg American newspaper building on Main St. may undergo future changes if council members are able to provide funds to renovate the building.

In a City Council meeting on Monday, owner of the unoccupied building, David McKellar plans on donating the building to the city.

The Hattiesburg Arts Council voiced their opinions of occupying the existing building.

City Council President, Kim Bradley, says, "I think for the area it is an awesome thing to be able to have a center under one roof, that would be able to cater to all the needs of the folks here in Hattiesburg that are interested in the arts" Bradley says.

If the council accepts the donation from McKellar the Hattiesburg Arts Council is asking for $1.3 million dollars in the next 3 years to help fund their proposal.
