Teen dies after fatal shooting in Jasper county, investigation continues

JASPER COUNTY, Miss - The Jasper County Sheriff's department continues to investigate the death of a 15 year old male, who was shot over the weekend during a party in the Moss Community.

The incident happened Sunday evening on March 6 at Country Road 237.

Sheriff Randy Johnson says, "My deputies were dispatched, two went to the hospital, two went to the scene, statements were collected, the understanding was that the victim was pronounced dead from a single gun shot wound."

The victim was shot in the chest and transported in a private vehicle by Brandon Miller, 20.

Miller took the victim to South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel where he was pronounced dead.

Sheriff Johnson mentions there were around 6 to 8 attendees at the party, all cooperating with the deputies.

According to Sheriff Johnson, Miller is the suspect in the case and was released Tuesday afternoon after questioning.

"I do not think it has anything to do with a cover up, I think it was a tragic accident, but we are going to leave that to the grand jury, we are going to let them hear all the evidence, hear any statements, talk to any witnesses they want to talk to. If it is a crime, then yeah we need to pursue it, if it is not we do not" Sheriff Johnson says.

The department suspects no foul play, however the investigation is still ongoing and there are no charges on Miller at this time.
